Uplifting The Voices In Our Community

At Lynn Community Health Center, we are proud to uplift the voices of our community, especially those who are too often unheard. One of the most powerful expressions of this spirit came to life in OFF THE GRID, a six-month photography project that brought together volunteers and individuals experiencing homelessness in Lynn.

Launched in 2016 as a six-month photography mentorship for individuals experiencing homelessness, the project has brought warmth and meaning to our health center’s walls.

Displayed throughout our facility, these photographs have transformed our environment. Patients, staff, and visitors alike reflect on the beauty and emotional depth captured in each frame. To honor the dignity and privacy of each artist, all images were exhibited anonymously and untitled. The focus remained not on their circumstances, but on their voices, perspectives, and creativity.

I love sunsets because it means I have had another day alive.

This quote, paired with a striking sunset image, has become a favorite among patients in our dental department. As one staff member shared:

Many have expressed that they feel a personal connection to the images. Knowing that the photographs were taken by individuals who have experienced homelessness adds a powerful layer of meaning. It’s a beautiful and poignant reminder of strength and hope, which has enriched the atmosphere of the dental department in a meaningful way.
Dr. Herlivi Linares, Associate Dental Director

The presence of this artwork has done more than decorate our walls, it has sparked conversations, inspired empathy, and reminded us all of the dignity and creativity that lives within every person, regardless of their circumstances.

By integrating these pieces into our health center, we honor the voices of those too often unheard. Quotes shared by artists added emotional depth to the visuals, some heartbreaking poignant, others hopeful, but and all deeply human. Together, the photographs and words form a moving testament to the strength and spirit of those who participated.
