By December 1, 2022November 21st, 2023Announcements, Support LCHC3 min read

Thanks to you, we raised more than ever this year!

In the past two years, you raised $6,000 and $7,000. This year, 2022, we quickly surpassed $13,000 and almost tripled the number of individual contributors.

These funds were immediately put to use supporting our 542 newborns of 2022!

Already, your gifts have purchased supplied for volunteer-made gift bags that were distributed to families, including baby blankets and hats, winter sleepers, bibs, multi-lingual books, and diapers.

Because of your generosity, we were also able to purchase more Market Basket gift cards to be given to new moms in OB, Pedi, and Moms Do Care!

...A story of hard work, sacrifice and pain, but also a story of resilience and joy. LCHC is a place where we try to help all these women as best as possible. I feel very proud to be able to work in this institution. Every December we bring a little joy to these mothers and their children with my baby's first Christmas..."

Maria Merced, OB / CM, CLC, CHWOB Team Case Manager

What is Baby's First Holiday?

26 years ago, one of our OB nurses recognized that quite a few of our new mothers lacked basic newborn needs. She started our to change and Baby’s First Holiday (previously “Baby’s First Christmas”) was born, growing to an annual event to brighten the holidays for our LCHC moms and their newborns. Baby’s First Holiday became and remains entirely volunteer driven.

The mission of the Lynn Community Health Center is to deliver high quality integrated health care to all, regardless of ability to pay. This past year in 2022, our staff delivered 542 babies at MGB Salem Hospital. Each woman and newborn received outstanding and compassionate care, many in a language other than English.

Our LCHC staff cover the hospital 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  Not all 542 births in 2022 were easy. Some pregnancies are high-risk. Many of these moms can be safely delivered by out staff. When indicated, out team works with additional experts in Boston hospitals for the best outcomes. Often, the moms return to our care and deliver at MGB Salem, closer to home.

Our moms want what every mother wants for their child: health and hope for a bright future. For many, life is difficult. The pandemic hit our patient population very hard, and economic recovery has been uneven.

Your donations to and support for Baby’s First Holiday enable our volunteers to fill gift bags with newborn essentials for each new mom!

What kinds of essentials are given to new moms?

In addition to Market Basket gifts cards to help with nutritious food for the week, your support helps provide these essentials and so much more to our new moms and babies:

  • $100 – Fund up to 1 month’s diapers for a newborn LCHC patient*

*On average, a baby will go through over 2,000 diapers in their first year.
