Celebrates Graduation of First Community Health Student Fellowship Cohort
Lynn students complete innovative program focused on mentorship, health advocacy, and healthcare career exploration
LYNN, Mass. — Lynn Community Health Center (LCHC) celebrated the graduation of the inaugural cohort of its Community Health Student Fellowship Program, marking a major milestone in an innovative initiative designed to empower local youth as future healthcare leaders and community health advocates.
Launched through support from the Atrius Health Equity Foundation, the Community Health Student Fellowship Program was created to help address health disparities in Lynn while building pathways to healthcare careers for local high school students. Throughout the academic year, student fellows participated in mentorship, career exploration, health education, leadership development, advocacy activities, and hands-on learning experiences focused on improving health outcomes in their families and communities.
The first cohort achieved significant results:
The fellowship pairs students with healthcare professionals and exposes them to a wide range of clinical and non-clinical career pathways while helping them develop leadership, communication, and advocacy skills. Through the program, students learn how social determinants of health impact communities and gain practical experience promoting health and wellness among their peers and families.
“This graduation represents so much more than the completion of a program,” said Brenda Rodriguez, CEO of Lynn Community Health Center. “These students have spent the past year developing the knowledge, confidence, and leadership skills needed to make a meaningful difference in their communities. We are incredibly proud of everything they have accomplished and excited to see the impact they will continue to have as future healthcare professionals, advocates, and leaders. This cohort has shown what is possible when young people are given the opportunity, support, and mentorship to thrive.”
The Community Health Student Fellowship Program is part of LCHC’s broader commitment to improving health equity and strengthening the future healthcare workforce in Lynn. By investing in local youth, the program aims to create lasting change that extends beyond individual participants and benefits families and neighborhoods across the city.
Photos from the graduation ceremony will be available following the event.
