Sometimes you need medical care and you need it today. Maybe your child woke up with an ear infection. Maybe you twisted your ankle on your lunch break. Maybe a sore throat that started two days ago is only getting worse.
When something can’t wait for a scheduled appointment but doesn’t require an emergency room visit, walk-in care at Lynn Community Health Center is here for you. No appointment necessary. No referral needed. Just come in.
What Is Walk-In Care?
Walk-in care is exactly what it sounds like: medical care you can access the same day, without scheduling ahead of time. It fills the gap between your regular doctor’s office (which often books out days or weeks) and the emergency room (which is built for life-threatening situations).
At Lynn Community Health Center, our walk-in clinic provides treatment for a wide range of non-emergency health issues. You get seen by a qualified medical professional, receive a diagnosis, and leave with a treatment plan — often in a single visit.
What We Treat at Our Walk-In Clinic
Our walk-in clinic handles many of the same conditions your primary care doctor would, but on your timeline. Common reasons people visit include:
Injuries
- Sprains, strains, and twisted ankles
- Suspected minor fractures (like a possible broken toe or wrist)
- Cuts that may need stitches or wound care
- Minor burns
- Sports injuries
Skin Concerns
- Rashes and allergic reactions (without breathing difficulty or facial swelling)
- Insect bites and stings
- Minor skin infections
Illness and Infection
- Cold and flu symptoms
- Sore throat, ear infections, and sinus infections
- Fever
- Urinary tract infections (UTIs)
- Nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea
- Pink eye (conjunctivitis)
- Mild asthma flare-ups
Other
- Mild to moderate abdominal pain
- Minor allergic reactions
If you’re unsure whether your situation is right for walk-in care, a good rule of thumb: if it needs attention today but isn’t life-threatening, we can likely help. For a more detailed breakdown, read our guide on when to choose urgent care vs. the emergency room.
What to Expect During Your Visit
Knowing what to expect can make the process smoother, especially if it’s your first time visiting a walk-in clinic.
Before you arrive:
- Bring a valid photo ID and your insurance card (if you have one)
- Write down your current medications and any allergies
- Note when your symptoms started and what you’ve tried at home
When you get here:
- Check in at the front desk — no appointment or referral needed
- A member of our team will take your vitals and ask about your symptoms
- You’ll see a provider who will examine you, answer your questions, and discuss next steps
- If needed, we can do basic diagnostics on-site
After your visit:
- You’ll leave with a clear treatment plan — whether that’s a prescription, home care instructions, or a referral for follow-up
- If follow-up care is needed, our team can help you schedule with a primary care provider at Lynn Community Health Center
Who Can Use Walk-In Care?
Our Urgent Care clinic serves everyone in the Lynn community. You don’t need to be an existing patient. You don’t need a referral. We welcome patients regardless of insurance status, and our team can help you explore payment options if cost is a concern.
Lynn Community Health Center is a federally qualified health center, which means we serve patients on a sliding fee scale based on income. No one is turned away for inability to pay.
Walk-In Care vs. Primary Care: What’s the Difference?
Walk-in clinics and primary care complement each other, but they serve different purposes.
Walk-in care is best for:
- Conditions that need same-day attention
- New symptoms that can’t wait for a scheduled visit
- One-time health issues (an infection, a sprain, a rash)
Primary care is best for:
- Ongoing management of chronic conditions (diabetes, high blood pressure, asthma)
- Preventive screenings and annual physicals
- Medication management and refills
- Coordinated care across specialists
If you visit our walk-in clinic and don’t currently have a primary care provider, we can help connect you with one. Having a regular doctor who knows your history is one of the best things you can do for your long-term health.
When to Skip Walk-In Care and Go to the ER
Walk-in care covers a lot of ground, but some situations require emergency-level resources. Call 911 or go to the emergency room for:
- Chest pain or difficulty breathing
- Signs of stroke (sudden numbness, confusion, trouble speaking)
- Severe allergic reactions with throat swelling or trouble breathing
- Heavy, uncontrolled bleeding
- Head injuries with loss of consciousness
- Broken bones with visible deformity
